Montréal is in the French speaking province of Quebec in Eastern Canada, almost due north of New York. Almost everyone there speaks both French and English, and many speak a third language. The city is cold and snowy in winter. In January the average low is -12° and the average high is -4°. In August the average low is 17° and the average high is 26°. There are between 9 and 11 days of rain each month. There are frequent direct flights between the UK and Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport, which is close to the centre of the city.

Attractions
There are far too many attractions to name them all, but some of the most notable are:
- The Notre Dame Basilica, St Joseph's Oratory, St Patrick's Basilica, Mary Queen of the World Cathedral. These are beautiful architectural landmarks, as well as historic and religious sites.
- The Olympic Stadium, built for the 1976 summer Olympic Games, with it's distinctive architecture and the tallest inclined tower in the world (with an observation deck at the top) is unmissable.
- The Mount Royal Park, on the mountain from which the city gets its name, with several iconic landmarks and wonderful views of the city is another must.
- The old port of Montréal, and the parks and cycle ways along the river offer different ways of experiencing the beauty of the St Lawrence River.
Museums, Galleries & Exhibitions
There is a wealth of educational and cultural entertainment in the city:
- The Pointe-à-Callière Montréal Archaeology and History Complex, the Château Ramezay – Historic Site and Museum of Montréal, the Marguerite Bourgeoys Historic Site, the Musée de Lachine, the Écomusée du Fier Monde; these are just some of the top class museums dealing with different aspects of local history.

Shopping
The city is full of distinctly different and wonderful places to buy all sorts of different things. If you're looking for high style or contemporary design there is the Saint-Laurent Boulevard, the Eaton Centre, the Complex Desjardins, or the massive Underground City. Or you could explore the small boutiques or curio shops in any of the City's neighbourhoods. Then there are several beautiful, buzzing public markets.
Gastronomy
Montréal is is full of bistros, casual eateries and pop-up restaurants, as well as fine dining opportunities. It is famed specially for:
