Stunning Saint Lucia Holiday Options
One of the great advantages of Saint Lucia is that there are direct flights from the UK on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, as well as a weekly flight on Tui. All flights land at Hewanorra Airport at Vieux Fort on the southern tip of the island.
If you are looking for the perfect place to tie the knot, Saint Lucia could well be it. With easily managed regulations and dozens of superb wedding venues, not to mention your honeymoon right there, what more could you want?
There are four main areas to stay in on the Island.
Rodney Bay
Furthest north (about an hour and a half from the airport), on the north west coast, Rodney Bay is the place for the greatest action. A hive of activity with a wide range of restaurants and bars and the island's only casino, the area also offers lots of local excursions to nature reserves and places of historic interest. This is one of the most popular places for family holidays, with a wide range of accommodation to suit all tastes. It also has the only 18 hole golf course. Nearby, on the Atlantic side is Plantation Beach where you can surf or wind-surf.
Castries & Marigot Bay
Also on the west coast, a little further south is the national capital, Castries, situated on it's own bay, with beautiful beaches on both sides of it. Just to the south of it is the exquisite Marigot Bay, with its superb marina. Throughout these areas there is a variety of places to stay from small guest houses to top of the range resorts.
Soufriere
Still further south is the historic town of Soufriere, the original capital of the island. This area is a little quieter than Rodney Bay, but extremely beautiful and surrounded by resorts of the highest quality.
Coconut Bay
In the far south of the island, right next to the Hewanorra Airport is the area of Coconut Bay, on the south east coast. With fantastic access from the airport, this beautiful area also has excellent accommodation and plenty to do.
Two Centre Holidays
Although the island is not big, because there is so much to do and the different places have different things to offer, it is well worth considering splitting your holiday between two of the different areas. Apart from taxis, it is also possible to travel between them around the coast by water taxi.
When to Go
Saint Lucia is a year round destination and it is great to go there at any time. The busiest time is from December to April, which is also the driest season. May and June are quieter times and there are great deals to be had then. From July to November there is more rain, but this usually comes in short sharp showers that do not interfere much with a holiday. This is a great time for festivals, although it is also the hurricane season.
Saint Lucia has an extraordinary arrangement that guarantees a full refund in the event of a threatened hurricane.
