Superb Options For Your Luangwa Holiday
Within the Luangwa Valley there are many different choices...
South Luangwa National Park
South Luangwa is the most popular and accessible part of this area. You can get there from Lusaka in a 4x4 vehicle, but most people take a 70 minute flight from Lusaka to the Mfuwe airport where your lodge or tour operator will pick you up.
The Park, which is about 3 500 square miles, was proclaimed in 2004. It is surrounded by game management areas, so the area through which the game can roam is vast.
The region has a number of special variants: Crawshay's zebra, Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest, as well as a great variety of antelope and lots of elephant and buffalo.
This is a particularly good place to see leopards, and there are also lions, wild dogs and hyenas.
The bird life in the park is superb, with 378 recorded species including many raptors, five different kingfishers and many more.
Walking safaris were first pioneered here and are still popular, and there are many accommodation options from the lavishly luxurious to the more rough and ready.
Everywhere the people are extremely friendly and the service and guiding are superb.

North Luangwa National Park
Further up the river, the North Luangwa National Park enjoys the same benefits of beautiful scenery, high densities of game and wonderful birding, but this is a far more specialist destination.
It is more remote and much more difficult to get to. There are far fewer accommodation options and, though there is great comfort available, they tend to be more on the rustic side than the luxury side.
Walking safaris are a major specialty in this area, which has been relatively recently opened to visitors and is almost completely untouched.
There are are fewer leopards, but far more lions and very large herds of buffalo.
If you are an old hand at wildlife holidays and looking for something a little wilder, more remote, in an area even more pristine, this could well be the option for your superb Zambian holiday.
Whether you are looking for the ultimate in safari luxury, fantastic cuisine and complete relaxation in the glorious bush, with the pleasure and excitement of seeing wonderful game and birds, or whether you want more of a challenge, and a more down to earth and even more deeply immersive natural experience, we can help you plan and experience these pristine places.
