If you are looking for safe swimming beaches for the family then the warm waters of Sunrise, Muizenberg or Fishhoek beaches all have life savers in peak times.

Slightly further down the coast Boulders Beach near Simonstown is a lovely protected beach which you can share with a flock of penguins. For smaller, quirkier options you could try St James, or the remote and lovely Smitswinkelbaai.

On the other side of False Bay, the Strand and the Blue Flag Bikini Beach at Gordon's Bay both provide safe family swimming, and Kogel Bay is an exquisite little beach on the road to Cape Hangklip.

If surfing is your thing, Muizenberg is a great warm water option, but Scarborough or Long Beach (which runs from Kommetjie to Noordhoek) on the colder side of the peninsula are the most exciting.

Further round is the pretty Hout Bay beach and then, if you want to see or be seen where the beautiful people hang out (and don't mind cold water) the lovely beaches of Llundudno, Camps Bay and Clifton are not to be missed.

For beach walking options, apart from Long Beach, there is also Strandfontein and, to enjoy the best possible view of Table Mountain there is Milnerton beach.
