Brilliant Beach Holidays in South Africa
What could be better than to escape the cool and damp of a British winter to get sun on your skin, lovely white sand between your toes and cool salt water all over you? But beach holidays, like other holidays are not one size fits all!
Perhaps you want ....
- a luxury private retreat for a sun-baked honeymoon or romantic getaway, or
- to spend a couple of weeks of quality time with the children doing what they really enjoy, or
- to surf, or snorkel or scuba dive, or
- to cycle on the beach.
You may want your beach break to be somewhere where you can also hike or look for birds, or you may want to combine it with a trip to Cape Town or the Cape Wine Route, to learn about the cultural and natural heritage of South Africa, or to visit a fabulous luxury game reserve or one of South Africa's magnificent national or provincial parks.
Anything is possible (well almost anything!)

Options for Your Brilliant Beach Holiday in South Africa
Pick any two lists of the best beaches in South Africa and they probably won't have more than one or two in common! There are so many wondeful options to choose from that it is really hard to choose which are best, but here are some ideas to get started.
Cape Town
Why not start off in or around Cape Town so that you can combine your holiday with all the wonderful things that Cape Town offers and with a visit to the wine route? There are wonderful, safe, warm-water swimming beaches and spectacular surfing spots within easy reach of the city.
The Garden Route
Or you could base yourself in the Garden Route. The whole length of the Garden Route, including the end point, Port Elisabeth, there are beaches of all types to choose from.
East London & The Wild Coast
Further East there are great beaches along the coast towards East London and at East London, and beyond that is one South Africa's traditional beach get away areas, the beautiful Wild Coast.
North East Coast
KwaZulu Natal's South Coast and Durban itself have great beach options, and the far north east coast of South Africa in the Kingdom of KwaZulu, has some of the most remote and beautiful beachs.
Talking of remote, the West Coast also has beautiful wild beaches, though the swimming is for those who are used to cold water!

Best for Families
Around Cape Town, Fish Hoek beach is warm and safe and easy for families and children love the penguins at Boulders a little further down the coast towards Cape Point.
On the Garden Route Victoria Bay, Buffalo Bay and Central Beach in Plettenberg Bay are fantastic for families.
Kenton on Sea in the Eastern Cape is a great place for kids, and the Blue Flag beach at Umzumbe on the South Coast is also a great choice.
Best for Couples
If you are around Cape Town, the beaches at Clifton are where the beautiful set hang out. Unless you like cold water they are mainly for sun bathing, but how better to see and be seen?
For a romantic getaway there could be few better spots than Umngazi Mouth on the Wild Coast which offers absolute luxury and miles of beach that you are likely to have to yourselves.
The Wagtail Wow
We love the beach at Buffalo Bay for swimming and the Sedgefield and Platbank beaches for long walks.
Noetzie beach just east of Knysna is a tucked away favourite.
But for an exclusive beach holiday Umngazi Mouth, where we holidayed as children, would be our choice every time!
