Wonderful Wine Holidays in the Cape
Are you a wine connoisseur looking for the best of the best? Or perhaps you just love to drink a glass of chilled rosé with a delicious meal in the warm sunshine in a beautiful place?
Either way, the wine farms of the Western Cape will make you very happy, and here's why.....
From the driest Sauvignon Blanc to the uniquely South African sweet Jerepigo, or the equally South African red Pinotage, some of the world’s best wines can be sampled, enjoyed and bought to send back to your cellar. There is nothing like being able to describe the provenance of the wine when you serve it at your dinner party!
We not only love good wine, but we spent years exploring the Cape Winelands and sampling their products. We haven’t done all 19 different wine routes ourselves, but we know exactly where to find what you are looking for. And as a UK based business we can do that while offering you ABTA protection and an always available contact person.

Cape Wine Holiday Experiences
There are many wine tastings that you can do on a day trip from Cape Town. In some cases you can combine a wine tasting with a family friendly picnic in a beautiful setting and there are usually activities to entertain those not wanting to taste the wines.
Or you could base yourself in one of the superb luxury hotels on a wine farm such as Steenberg, Asara, Babylonstoren, Delaire Graff or Spier, and venture out from there (if you can tear yourself away) to other wine estates, or to the other sites of Cape Town.
Best known, on the coastal plateau, in a stunningly beautiful semi-circle round Cape Town, are the Cape Winelands, including
as well as areas like, Helderberg (the wine growing area around Somerset West), Swartberg and Darling.
Just over the mountains, whether you take either of the spectacular Bainskloof or du Toit's Kloof passes or go through the Huguenot Tunnel, you find the Breede River Valley, with many wonderful wineries around
Along the coast road past Cape Hangklip or over Sir Lowry's Pass, at the start of the Garden Route you will find the exquisite Hemel en Aarde Vallei (Heaven and Earth valley) in the Hermanus area.

Or if you want to spend less time on the road, right inside the Cape Town area is the gorgeous Constantia Valley with several superb wine offerings.
If you are looking for more than a day trip or a few of them, we can plan a tour, staying at luxury wine estates or nearby boutique hotels and sampling the very best wine that there is to be had. If there is something specific you want - maybe you want to taste all the best Cabernet Sauvignons - just let us know.
Of course there are also exciting wine tasting and buying opportunities outside the Cape Wine Route in several other wine growing areas in South Africa, where we can arrange visits to fit in with a range of other holiday destinations and experiences.
Best for Families
You might not think that wine tasting is a very family friendly activity, but with imaginative planning there are plenty of possibilities to keep everyone happy. Why not:
- Order a sumptuous pre-packed picnic to enjoy on lawns or beside a dam. Boschendal probably started this tradition, but there are now many to choose from.
- Combine your picnic with a riverboat cruise on the Breede River at Viljoensdrift
- Spend a while in the magical garden at Babylonstoren.
Whatever you want to do let us help you make it work for everyone.
Best for Couples
The winelands specialise in weddings and honeymoons! There are dozens of extraordinary wedding venues catering for all styles and sizes of wedding and wedding party. Get married in an historic manor house or in a beautiful garden. Treat your guests to world class cuisine and exclusive wines. Put them up for the night in superb accommodation. Let us help you find what suits you best.
As for honeymoons! Delaire Graff, Mont Rochelle, Le Quartier Francaise ...... and many more epitomise romance, luxury, beauty, elegance!
The Wagtail Wow
Our favourites:
- Boschendal for its gorgeous position, superb restaurant, wonderful picnics and classic wines
- Delaire Graff for the superb views, sumptuous accommodation and wonderful facilities - oh and the wines
- Tokara for its great tastings and excellent wines.
