Superb Options For Your Holiday To Kafue
One of the best areas in Kafue is the is the Busanga Plains in the far northern section of the park. These vast open plains teem with game in the dry season and are best visited from July to November. They are particularly known for letchwe, puku and roan antelope.
This area is also good for sightings of cheetah which are not found in many parts of Zambia, as well as large prides of lion. The population of endangered wild dog is also much higher than in most parks.
One of greatest offerings here, though, is the superb birdlife, with Crowned and Wattled cranes prominent among the 500 species of bird recorded.
The Busanga Plains can be seen from boats on the Kafue River, on foot, from game drive vehicles or from hot air baloons.
Further south lies the Itezhi-Tezhi Dam, a huge expanse of water constructed in the 1970s for a hydro-electricity project. This is an outstanding place for birding.
Still further south are the massive Nanzhila Plains that are another excellent area for viewing all types of game.
There is a good variety of holiday options in Kafue, with all types of accommodation from the basic to high end ultra-luxury lodges. Self drive is a real option here; there are also other options, like fishing on the dams, available.
