Kruger National Park
The Greater Kruger National Park Area is one of the biggest wildlife conservation areas in the world (about the size of Wales). It is made up of the National Park and a huge area of private reserves that border on the National Park without fences. It is also open to vast conservation areas in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
The next thing to know about the area is that it's incredibly diverse. A visit to the north is very different from a visit to the south: the vegetation is different, the landscapes are different, you see different birds and animals, there are more visitors in the south.
Also, a visit to a private lodge in the National Park or one of the private reserves is very different from staying in the Parks Board accommodation in the park. Its more luxurious and you will see more.
But wherever you go and however you go, you will have an unrivaled wildlife experience in the most ravishing bushveld landscape and surrounded by the most extraordinary and wonderful animals. The Big Five (elephant, rhinoceros,, buffalo, lion, leopard) are all there and you may be lucky enough to see them all, as well as other predators such as cheetah, wild dog and hyena, dozens of different types of antelopes, giraffe, zebra, hippopotamus, hundreds of species of birds......
Whether you want
- to fly in and stay at a superb private lodge

The Kruger Park is situated in the 'lowveld' (the lower lying parts) of the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Some quick facts:
- The Park covers 7,580 square miles (for comparison, Wales covers 8,006).
- It is an area of extraordinary biodiversity with 16 'macro ecozones'.
- 147 mammal species.
- Over 500 bird species.
- 336 tree species.
The park is also surrounded by connected reserves on all sides. It is part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park which stretches into both Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Down much of the western side there are private conservancies with no fences between them and the Kruger National Park.
These private nature reserves offer some of the best and most luxurious game viewing opportunities in the world. There are also private lodges and concessions within the park.
The south of the park has more predators and more big game, so your chances of seeing the Big 5 and other exciting mammals are higher. We have twice seen examples of all of the Big 5 in one day, but that is exceptional and you should not expect it.
The north is wilder, there are fewer people around and it is exceptional for birds of all sorts, and raptors in particular.
The vegetation also varies across the park, with very varied vegetation in the south and along the river valleys.
As well as the private lodges, there is a very wide range of accommodation, including self catering cottages, permanent tents, camping sites and remote bush camps.
